Project Description
Alfia Galimova
Born In Russia
Alfia Galimova is a Melbourne-based artist, illustrator, technical design tutor and fashion designer.
Born and raised in Russia, Alfia developed her passion for fine art and design at an early age. She
pursued a degree in Visual Arts and Crafts, specialising in sculpture, painting and technical drafting
at the Bashkirian State Pedagogical University. After graduating in 1992, she was offered a role as
a designer for the state porcelain ceramics manufacturer, which she later headed.
Since migrating to Australia in 2004, she was able to set up a dual creative practice: one focusing
on fine art, illustration, and murals; the other specialising in fashion design and commercial
pattern making.
Following traditions of Soviet constructivism and modernist art of the 1900’s, the exhibition ‘Life
of Geometry’ explores domesticity and the mundane through pure geometry and colour. This series
of works highlights the beauty of overlooked every-day objects, and through their interactions
examines human relationships and our existential position in the modern world.
