Bibi Ostermark Artist at Ryazanoff Gallery

Bibi Ostermark came to Australia in 1974 and has lived in Melbourne ever since. She is a keen observer and well equipped to capture the idiosyncrasies of life and its players. Her inspirations and ideas are drawn from everyday life, events, feelings and those special moments in life which comes close to fantasy.

My work is part abstract – part figurative, and part impressionistic. I’m labelled an “naive story teller” and I’m happy with that. It’s fair to say that I live in my own fairy-tale world, with Hans Christian Andersen, Brothers Grimm and now Alice in Wonderland. Flights of fancy, with a touch of humour, could well be the title of many of my paintings. In my figurative works, my particular skill is capturing the expression of people’s body language, with which I can depict expressions of mood and feeling through form, without relying on the detail in faces. I use intense colours and strong shapes. I always seek communication with the onlooker, even if it is criticism, it is very important that they react to my work. Why do I paint?People would ask: Is it a passion? Is it a hobby? Is it a money-spinner? No – it is my life!!!!
I invented “Jasper the bookworm” and are now working on “Charlie – The Blue Cat’ together with more Alice in Wonderland for exhibition
at Ryazanoff Gallery April 2021. I do paint EVERY morning between 4 am and 8 am, according to my cat it’s good to get up 3 am, LOL.
